25th Singles Series 1
The first series of single carded figures from the GI Joe 25th Anniversary line features highly-detailed, super-articulated versions of Flint, Cobra Commander, Storm Shadow, Snake-Eyes, and Cobra Officer. Apart from Flint, all of these figures are just repaints of figures released in the debut 5-packs of this line. (Heck, even Flint is just a repaint of Duke from the first 5-pack with a new head). But that didn’t stop me from buying most of this wave. Heh. Expand for pics.
FLINT
Flint is not only my favorite figure from this wave, but perhaps my favorite figure from this entire series. First off, I always loved Flint’s gritty, cavalier persona on the old ‘toon, and the face sculpt on this figure captures that disposition perfectly. His gear is fitting, with his ammo harness, shotgun, and hand gun. And, overall, he’s just a really nice figure. I did have to mod his elbows and crotch a bit to give him a freer range of motion, but that has become standard on the 25th Anniversary figures.
SNAKE-EYES
Another repaint. Snake-Eyes is just a direct repaint of the 5-pack version of this character, just with different gear and different head that features his visor look. The real draw of this figure is that it includes Snake-Eyes’ faithful wolf companion Timber. There were both gray and black variants of Timber. I went with the gray.
STORM SHADOW
Another repaint. It’s the box set Storm Shadow in his hooded guise, sporting a new paint-job that details his blocky ninja camo (or whatever that’s suppose to be). Nothing else really new with this release, but I’m a sucker for the ninjas of the Joe universe, so I had to get both versions.
COBRA OFFICER
Yet another repaint. This is just a re-release of the Cobra Trooper from the 5-pack, but with his gear painted in a different color to distinguish him as an officer. Makes sense, I guess. And if you’re into building armies of Cobra enemies, then Hasbro’s commitment to plugging a troop into each series is a good thing.
COBRA COMMANDER
Yes. Also a repaint. But, he gets done up in his ‘hooded’ look this time, which is pretty cool. I, however, prefer the silver-faced helmeted version we got in the box set, so I passed on this figure. But, if you’re a CC fan, then this version is probably a must-have.
